Service Engineer – Depot Operations Support

About the role

The Service Engineer supports depot operations by performing inspections, servicing and repairs on the hire fleet at customer sites and company depots. The role ensures all trailers remain legally compliant and assists the technical centre with fleet upgrades to meet operational targets.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out work in depots and customer sites while strictly following health and safety protocols.
• Inspect, service, repair and resolve faults on all hire‑fleet assets.
• Complete accurate paperwork for inspections, repairs and servicing, distinguishing wear‑and‑tear, customer damage and warranty failures.
• Report hazards and near‑misses to support the company’s safety culture.
• Maintain and stock work tools, spare parts and the company‑assigned vehicle.
• Wear appropriate PPE and work in line with RAMS, COSHH and toolbox talks.

Required profile

• No prior specific experience required – full training will be provided.
• Full UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points.
• Strong focus on health and safety and a proactive problem‑solving mindset.
• Physically fit for a manual, active role.
• Organised, reliable, self‑motivated with keen attention to detail.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities while delivering high‑quality customer experience.

Required skills

• Basic electrical knowledge.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Familiarity with traffic‑light equipment.
• CSCS card holder certification.
• Competence in operating company vans and pickups up to 3.5 tonnes.
• Ability to tow a trailer carrying plant equipment.
• Full UK driving licence.
