Service Manager – Children’s Safeguarding

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Service Manager to lead the Child Protection Conference Chair function within Children’s Services. This temporary, hybrid role will oversee the delivery of high‑quality safeguarding conferences and drive continuous improvement across the service.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Child Protection Conference Chair service, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
• Provide leadership, professional challenge and support to Children’s Social Care teams.
• Promote a child‑centred approach, embedding children’s voices and families in decision‑making.
• Collaborate with partner agencies, senior leaders and frontline staff to strengthen safeguarding arrangements.
• Monitor performance, quality assurance and service effectiveness using data and professional insight.
• Lead service development initiatives and embed continuous improvement.
• Support the development of a high‑performing team through supervision and coaching.

Required profile

• Significant experience in Children’s Social Care and safeguarding.
• Proven leadership or management experience in a safeguarding environment.
• Strong knowledge of child protection legislation and statutory guidance.
• Experience driving service improvement and high standards of practice.
• Excellent communication, partnership and analytical skills.
• Recognised Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
