Shift Engineer

About the role

Elis UK Limited is seeking a motivated Shift Engineer to join its Southampton site. The role works a Panama shift pattern, includes occasional weekends, and supports the continuous operation of industrial laundry equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out remedial engineering works on industrial laundry machinery as directed by the Engineering Manager.
• Repair equipment safely and promptly while keeping production teams informed of progress.
• Record Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) data accurately in the CMMS system.
• Perform fault finding, diagnostics and testing on mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems.
• Travel to off‑site training facilities or other group factories when required.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing or process environment.
• NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Engineering (or equivalent HND/BTEC apprenticeship).
• Proven competence in both electrical and mechanical trades, including pneumatics, hydraulics and circuit knowledge.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
• Self‑motivated, decisive and capable of building effective relationships at all levels.

• Electrical circuits and wiring (BS 7671, IET regulations).
• Mechanical systems, pneumatics and hydraulics.
• CMMS data entry and PPM planning.
• Fault finding and electronic component testing.
• Industrial laundry equipment maintenance.
• Steam systems and chemical water‑treatment knowledge.
• Fabrication, welding and PTW risk assessment.
• Legionella control (ACOP L8) and IOSH Managing Safely.
