Software Engineer – Automated X-ray Metrology

About the role

Nordson Test & Inspection is looking for a motivated Software Engineer to join its AXM team in Colchester. You will work on cutting‑edge automated X‑ray metrology systems, collaborating closely with hardware and engineering groups to deliver high‑performance software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain software for Nordson’s automated X‑ray metrology platforms.
• Implement image‑analysis algorithms for X‑ray data and generate accurate 3‑D models.
• Integrate software with motion‑control hardware and robotics subsystems.
• Document designs, write user instructions and support field issue resolution.
• Participate in code reviews, audits and transfer code to volume manufacturing.
• Mentor junior engineers and stay current with emerging software techniques.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Vision, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong analytical, data‑driven problem‑solving approach.
• Ability to work on‑site with cross‑functional teams and travel up to 10 %.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C++ development within multi‑threaded, performance‑critical environments.
• Experience with GPU programming and parallel computing.
• Knowledge of Behaviour‑Driven Development (BDD) and/or Test‑Driven Development (TDD).
• Familiarity with code management and issue‑tracking tools.
• Experience in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) or DevOps practices, including CI/CD and unit testing.
• Development on 64‑bit Windows 10/11 platforms.
• Understanding of computer vision, image processing, signal processing and 3‑D reconstruction.
• Experience with motion‑control software for robotics or automated systems and C# development.
