Software Engineer - Backend, Session Management

About the role

FanDuel is looking for a Software Engineer to join its CPE Platform vertical, within Core Products and Experiences, in Edinburgh. You will work in the Session Management team, building and improving backend services that support reliable, scalable customer sessions. Key responsibilities

• Build and improve backend services that support reliable, scalable customer sessions
• Write clear, maintainable backend code in Java or a similar language, following team standards
• Help build and improve APIs, services and database-backed functionality handling high traffic
• Test changes carefully and improve reliability, observability and supportability
• Take part in code reviews, design discussions, planning and team ceremonies
• Investigate bugs and support issues, finding root causes and practical improvements
• Learn scaling systems, databases, caching and cloud infrastructure through hands-on work
• Keep documentation up to date and collaborate with engineers, product partners and stakeholders

Required profile

• Experience building backend software through work, internships, placements, bootcamps, university projects or personal projects
• Understanding of Java or a similar object-oriented language, and interest in backend services and APIs
• Interest in distributed systems, reliability, monitoring and high-traffic production systems
• Willingness to write tests and to work in a team, asking questions and receiving feedback

Required skills

• Java or a similar object-oriented language
• Databases and SQL, with interest in data modelling, performance and scaling
• Common data structures, algorithms and software design principles
• Cloud technologies, containers or CI/CD are helpful but not required
