Software Engineer – Defence & Space

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Software Engineer to join Airbus Defence and Space’s innovative team in Portsmouth. You will help design, develop and maintain high‑quality software for critical defence and space applications, working in a hybrid environment with occasional travel.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain software applications and systems.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware engineers and other developers to define requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
• Participate in the full software development life‑cycle from concept through testing, deployment and support.
• Write clean, efficient, well‑documented code following established standards.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure quality and maintainability.
• Debug and troubleshoot issues, identifying root causes and implementing fixes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and tools.
• Stay current with emerging technologies relevant to defence and space software.
• Assist in creating technical documentation such as design specifications, user manuals and test plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and internationally.
• Ability to work on‑site at least 60 % of the time (hybrid model).
