Software Engineer – On‑board & Ground Test Software

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to design and develop on‑board software and ground‑test software for our space payloads. The role is based in our UK office (Manchester/Stevenage/Harwell) and supports both internal and external customers across the satellite, robotics and geointelligence business areas.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and test on‑board software for payloads.
• Develop ground‑test software and associated test cases.
• Collaborate with validation, hardware and systems teams, sharing knowledge proactively.
• Estimate resources and schedule end‑to‑end software deliveries.
• Document APIs, code and test results for internal and partner use.
• Travel to other MDA or partner locations as required to support project objectives.

Required profile

• Proven ability to translate requirements into software designs.
• Experience developing Python applications and modules.
• Experience developing C/C++ software on Linux systems.
• Familiarity with formal development, testing, integration and documentation processes.
• Comfort with industry tools such as Git and Jenkins.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing business priorities.
