Software Engineering Manager

About the role

Join an exciting energy‑research company that builds a core forecasting model at the heart of global energy decision‑making. As the Modelling Software Engineering Manager you will lead 3–4 squads (15–20 engineers) developing and operating critical models and the underlying platform in Oxford.

Key responsibilities

• People & Culture – line‑manage senior engineers, run performance reviews and develop squad leads as managers.
• Delivery Excellence – own sprint cadence, capacity planning, blocker removal and process quality using modern Agile and Continuous Delivery practices.
• Continuous Improvement – identify friction, introduce modern tooling and evaluate AI solutions to optimise requirements gathering and sprint analytics.
• Commercial Alignment – partner with Product to translate engineering capacity into realistic commercial priorities.
• Talent & Growth – assess training needs, close skills gaps and run end‑to‑end recruitment for a strong hiring pipeline.

Required profile

• 4–6+ years of engineering‑management experience with mixed technical teams.
• Solid software‑engineering background; you have written production code and can discuss technical details with senior engineers.
• Hands‑on experience implementing Agile/CD practices to raise team delivery maturity.
• Proven people‑leadership with regular performance conversations, development plans and empathetic feedback.
• Experience running a full recruitment pipeline and evaluating technical talent.
