Sous Chef – Healthcare Residential Kitchen

About the role

We are seeking a warm, enthusiastic Sous Chef to join our award‑winning team at Elstree View Care Home. You will support the Head Chef in delivering nutritious, high‑quality meals that enhance the wellbeing of our residents.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in managing a culinary team and ensuring service within budget.
• Prepare modified diets that are appealing, balanced, and comply with IDDSI guidance.
• Supervise and direct culinary staff, providing instruction on simple food preparation.
• Maintain the highest standards of hygiene through safe food handling practices.
• Support staff in understanding and applying Avery’s food safety management system.

Required profile

• Hold a relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 1 year catering experience.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to high‑quality resident care.
• Flexible and adaptable to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.

Required skills

• Food safety knowledge.
• Understanding of IDDSI guidelines.
• Modified diet preparation.
