Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo)

About the role
We are looking for an experienced SENDCo to lead the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities provision in a secondary school. The role combines strategic leadership of SEND policy with day‑to‑day coordination of support for pupils, ensuring inclusive practice across the school.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor the school’s SEND policy and provision.
- Coordinate identification, assessment and support plans for pupils with SEND.
- Track pupil progress and evaluate the impact of interventions.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to embed inclusive classroom practices.
- Provide training and guidance to colleagues on SEND strategies.
- Build strong partnerships with parents, carers and external agencies.
- Manage EHCP processes, annual reviews and statutory documentation.
- Oversee SEND resources and support staff deployment.
- Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and related legislation.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Significant experience working with pupils with SEND, preferably in a secondary setting.
- Willingness to work towards the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCO.
- Strong understanding of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Excellent leadership, organisational and communication abilities.
- Commitment to inclusive education and raising achievement for all learners.
