Specialist Doctor – Adoption Medical Adviser (Community Paediatrics)

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed doctor to join our permanent Community Paediatrics service as an Adoption Medical Adviser. Based primarily at the Eastgate Hub in East Central Bristol, you will work across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, supporting children in care and prospective adopters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist medical advice throughout the adoption process.
• Undertake statutory health assessments for children in care.
• Prepare comprehensive health reports for children being considered for adoption.
• Assess the health information of prospective adopters and liaise with GPs and other professionals.
• Advise the Agency Decision Maker on health‑related matters.
• Meet with prospective adopters to discuss health and developmental needs of matched children.
• Offer specialist advice on inter‑country adoptions when required.
• Attend Adoption West panel meetings, present medical reports and answer health‑related queries.
• Contribute to court reports and placement recommendations.
• Participate in panel training, appraisal and ensure statutory reports meet legislation and national standards.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with experience in paediatrics or child health.
• Interest in adoption and child protection work.
• Ability to work across multiple clinical sites and attend on‑call duties.
• Strong collaborative skills within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and teaching activities.
