Specialist Pharmacist – Band 7, NHS Lothian

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Specialist Pharmacist (Band 7) to join the pharmacy team at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. The post will support the delivery of high‑quality pharmacy services across a range of paediatric specialties and will play a key part in developing our clinical pharmacy service.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical pharmacy support to acute receiving units and specialist medical wards.
• Influence prescribing decisions and optimise medication therapy for paediatric patients.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams with a non‑medical prescribing role.
• Contribute to service development, patient flow management and capacity planning.
• Maintain up‑to‑date clinical knowledge across diverse specialties such as oncology, neurology and intensive care.

Required profile

• Master of Pharmacy degree (or equivalent) and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Proven experience influencing prescribing and improving patient care.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities in an acute setting.
• Proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous professional development.
