Specialty Doctor – Male Rehabilitation (Psychiatry)

About the role

The Specialty Doctor will join Cygnet Hospital Maidstone on Kingswood Ward, a 16‑bed high‑support inpatient rehabilitation service for men. Working in a purpose‑built therapeutic environment, you will deliver psychiatric care, support recovery and facilitate community reintegration for patients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide routine medical and psychiatric support, including initial clerking and mental‑state examination of newly admitted patients.
• Conduct assessment, appropriate investigations, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision.
• Maintain effective communication with ward nursing staff, mental‑health professionals and external agencies.
• Participate in weekly ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, CPA, tribunal hearings and Section 117 meetings.
• Maintain comprehensive records of assessments, interventions and discharge summaries in line with company policies.
• Attend all mandatory training, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Immediate Life Support (ILS).

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor registered to practise psychiatry in the UK.
• Experience as a Specialty Doctor or Staff Grade Psychiatrist in mental‑health settings.
• Ability to work autonomously while being supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist.
• Commitment to multidisciplinary, patient‑centred care.
• Willingness to rotate between wards annually for varied clinical exposure.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
