Staff Nurse – Blood Donation Services

About the role

Public Services Delivery Scotland is seeking a Staff Nurse to join the Donor Services Blood Collection Team. You will work across the West of Scotland, supporting whole‑blood, platelet and plasma collection sessions and ensuring donors have a safe, comfortable experience.

Key responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture and medical selection during whole‑blood donation sessions.
• Assess donor suitability for apheresis (platelet and plasma) including venous access and predicted platelet yield.
• Set up and assist with community donation sessions, handling equipment cages or trolleys up to 60 kg safely with a colleague.
• Provide donor education, answer questions and maintain high standards of care and hygiene.
• Support quality‑assurance and training activities within the team.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational abilities.
• Flexibility to work variable hours, including Sundays and late evenings.
• Willingness to travel regularly across the West of Scotland.
• Ability to undergo a PVG Scheme check and provide any required overseas criminal record checks.
