Staff Nurse – End of Life/Hospital Based Palliative Care

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is recruiting two permanent Staff Nurses for the 16‑bed End of Life/Hospital Based Palliative Care unit on McMillan Ward at Biggart Hospital. You will work a flexible 34.02‑hour week, including night shifts, delivering high‑quality, individualized care to patients in a palliative setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide compassionate nursing care to patients receiving end‑of‑life and palliative support.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.
• Administer medication, monitor patient conditions, and document clinical observations.
• Support patients and families with emotional and practical guidance.
• Participate in ward handovers and maintain accurate patient records.

Required profile

• Qualified first‑level registered nurse (NMC registration).
• Minimum six months post‑registration experience, or a new registrant awaiting successful NMC registration.
• Motivated, self‑driven, and committed to delivering high standards of care.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time‑management abilities.
