Staff Nurse – Inpatient Wards

About the role

The University Hospital Southampton is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join the C2 acute haematology ward. The role involves caring for 27 in‑patients, including 7 patients receiving autologous stem‑cell transplants, within a high‑acuity cancer and haematology environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, high‑quality nursing care to all in‑patients on the C2 ward.
• Administer and monitor systemic anti‑cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
• Support patients undergoing autologous stem‑cell transplants, ensuring post‑procedure care and monitoring.
• Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to coordinate patient care plans.
• Maintain accurate patient records using the hospital’s electronic systems.
• Uphold infection‑control standards and respond promptly to emergencies.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC) with experience in acute haematology or oncology.
• Ability to work flexible 24/7 shift patterns.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and able to thrive in a high‑acuity setting.

Required skills

• Administration of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
• Management of stem‑cell transplant patients.
• Proficiency with electronic patient record systems.
