Staff+ Software Engineer – Safeguards Infrastructure

About the role

We are looking for software engineers to help build the foundational pieces for safety, oversight and intervention mechanisms of our AI systems. As a software engineer on the Safeguards team, you will work to monitor models, prevent misuse, and ensure user well‑being, focusing on detecting unwanted model behaviors and preventing disallowed use.

Key responsibilities

• Develop foundational Safeguards systems, including data storage, metric and evaluation infrastructure, and tooling for human and agentic review.
• Maintain day‑to‑day operation of Safeguards systems, ensuring high operational standards while reducing required human oversight.
• Build robust, multi‑layered defenses for real‑time safety improvements at scale.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Python and ability to work across the stack.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
