Stores Operative / Forklift Operator

About the role

We are looking for a reliable Stores Operative who can also operate a forklift to support a busy scrap‑yard and recycling business in Lewes. The role involves handling deliveries, maintaining stock and supplying engineers and yard staff with the parts they need to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, check and record deliveries of parts, consumables, PPE and other materials.
• Organise and maintain stock within the stores area, ensuring accurate records.
• Issue parts and materials to engineers and yard staff while monitoring stock levels.
• Carry out regular stock checks and support annual stocktakes.
• Prepare components for planned maintenance and breakdown repairs.
• Load and unload deliveries using a forklift or pallet truck where trained.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised stores environment and follow COSHH and PPE guidelines.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a stores, warehouse, yard or parts environment.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling.
• Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial or scrap‑yard setting.
• Reliable, proactive and safety‑conscious attitude.

Required skills

• Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence.
