Stress Engineer

About the role

Assystem is seeking a Stress Engineer to join its on‑site team in Derby. You will be responsible for producing design and manufacturing documentation for mechanical equipment and structural supports, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform design calculations in line with pressure vessel codes (e.g., ASME) and structural codes (Eurocode 3).
• Select cost‑effective, regulation‑compliant solutions.
• Collaborate with the CAD team and suppliers to generate engineering drawings using NX 11 or AutoCAD.
• Create and maintain equipment specifications and technical documentation.
• Present design proposals at technical review meetings.
• Ensure all work adheres to the company’s Quality Management System.

Required profile

• Proven experience applying codes such as ASME VIII, EN 13445, Eurocode 3, BS EN 1090 or EN 13001.
• Ability to plan and manage own workload independently.
• Strong understanding of steelwork components, materials, profiles, strength and joint design.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative team attitude.

Required skills

• ASME VIII, EN 13445, Eurocode 3, BS EN 1090, EN 13001
• Finite Element Analysis (Abaqus, ANSYS or LS‑Dyna)
• CAD software – Siemens NX 11, AutoCAD
• CE and/or UKCA marking compliance
• Stress analysis and scheme calculation reporting
• Knowledge of tolerances and steelwork design
