Tax Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Tax Accountant to join a leading UK housing association through Hays Specialist Recruitment. The role will strengthen the Financial Accounting team by handling tax compliance and supporting high‑quality financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit tax returns, including VAT, CIS, Corporation Tax, Gift Aid and Employment Taxes.
• Identify and implement tax planning opportunities.
• Manage relationships with internal advisors, external consultants and tax authorities.
• Provide ad‑hoc tax and technical accounting support to the Group.
• Assist with month‑end reconciliations and support external audit processes.

Required profile

• Full CCAB or CIMA qualification (or equivalent).
• Experience in core tax areas such as VAT, CIS or Corporation Tax.
• Strong financial accounting background in practice, industry or the public/not‑for‑profit sector.
• Good knowledge of UK accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
