Tax Junior / Bookkeeping Assistant

About the role

We are partnering with a well‑established accountancy practice near Chelmsford to recruit a Tax Junior / Bookkeeping Assistant. This position offers early‑career accountants the chance to develop a broad skill set across tax compliance and day‑to‑day bookkeeping in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of personal tax returns.
• Support the preparation of VAT returns.
• Perform day‑to‑day bookkeeping for a variety of clients, including purchase and sales ledger processing.
• Carry out bank reconciliations and maintain the general ledger.
• Help accountants with year‑end accounts preparation and client queries.
• Maintain accurate client records and provide general administrative support to the tax and accounts team.

Required profile

• Some experience in an accountancy practice or finance environment is desirable.
• Keen interest in building a career in tax and accountancy.
• Strong attention to detail and good numerical ability.
• Willingness to learn new technical skills and meet deadlines.
• Confident communicator with a professional approach.
