Teaching Assistant – SEN Focus (Level 2/3)

About the role

This temporary Teaching Assistant position supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a specialist setting in Cambridgeshire. You will work closely with class teachers to create an inclusive learning environment and help young people overcome barriers to learning.

Key responsibilities

• Provide in‑class and out‑of‑class support to pupils with additional needs.
• Collaborate with the class teacher to deliver engaging, accessible activities.
• Modify and prepare resources to suit individual learning styles and abilities.
• Encourage positive behaviour, participation and emotional regulation.
• Help pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills.
• Maintain a nurturing and structured learning environment.

Required profile

• Recognised TA qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English.
• Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEN.
• Strong understanding of how to support engagement and learning.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour.
• Ability to build trust and positive relationships with pupils.
• Knowledge of safeguarding practices.
