About the role
The Technical Services Field Technician will join a specialist team delivering, maintaining, refurbishing and commissioning protection, control and SCADA systems across SSEN Distribution’s network. Working primarily on substation secondary systems, you will support both capital projects and operational fault response to ensure safe and reliable network operation.
Key responsibilities
- Install and modify protection, control and SCADA equipment in substations, including panel wiring, multicore installation, glanding and terminating.
- Support testing, commissioning and fault‑finding activities under guidance of engineers, performing wiring verification, signal checks and functional testing.
- Assist with refurbishment, maintenance and upgrades of protection relays, RTU/SCADA equipment and associated auxiliary systems.
- Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and cable schedules to safely work on live LV AC and DC systems following approved procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers, project teams, contractors and operational staff to deliver projects, commissioning and fault response across the network.
Required profile
- Recognised electrical qualification (e.g., ONC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds) or equivalent experience in electrical installation.
- Strong practical experience in electrical installation and panel wiring, preferably within substation, industrial, protection, control, SCADA or automation environments.
- Experience working on protection, control and/or SCADA systems, including installation, modification, testing, commissioning support or fault‑finding.
- Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and cable schedules safely on live LV AC/DC systems.
