Telephone Triage Nurse/Paramedic – Emergency Operations Centre

About the role

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is expanding its virtual care model and needs experienced clinicians to provide remote clinical assessment, triage and advice for 999 callers. This permanent, office‑based position works from the NHS 111/999 contact centre in Crawley (or Medway) and forms a critical part of the urgent and emergency care pathway.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver remote clinical assessments, referrals and home‑management advice using clinical decision support software and other IT systems.
• Support and coach Emergency Medical Advisors and ambulance dispatch teams.
• Prioritise and manage incidents to ensure patient safety and appropriate resource allocation.
• Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues and other healthcare professionals, negotiating referrals as needed.
• Provide clinical leadership within the EOC, including safeguarding and capacity/consent decisions.

Required profile

• Qualified Band 5 adult nurse ready to progress to Band 6, or an experienced Band 6 paramedic/nurse.
• Compassionate, clinically confident and able to work 24/7 shift patterns, including nights.
• Residence within 45–60 minutes commuting distance of the contact centre.
• Willingness to attend an online clinical assessment (24 June 2026) and a face‑to‑face interview (9 July 2026) if shortlisted.

Required skills

• Proficiency with clinical decision support software.
• Experience using IT systems for emergency call handling.
• Ability to conduct remote clinical assessments and triage.
