Toolchain Extension Software Engineer

About the role

Barclays is hiring a Toolchain Extension Software Engineer in Glasgow to design, develop and improve software that provides business, platform and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues. The role uses various engineering methodologies and is listed as hybrid (#LI-Hybrid).

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools, keeping code scalable, maintainable and performance-optimized.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and other engineers to define requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Take part in code reviews, promote code quality and share knowledge with peers.
• Follow secure coding practices and implement effective unit testing.
• Stay informed of technology trends and contribute to the organization's technology communities.

Required profile

• Permanent contract, based in Glasgow.
• Ability to advise and influence decision-making, collaborate across functions and take ownership of risk and controls.
• Leadership expectations: either lead a team, set objectives and coach employees, or lead collaborative assignments and guide team members.
• Legal right to work in the UK; the role may be subject to enhanced governance and additional regulatory and compliance obligations.

Required skills

• CI/CD engineering with GitLab (or similar) pipelines and deployment automation.
• Software development and scripting in Java, Python, Go, TypeScript, Bash or PowerShell.
• Git expertise.
• Highly valued: DevSecOps tooling (SonarQube, Nexus, Veracode, Wiz), cloud-native technologies (AWS, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Docker) and CD tooling (Harness, Octopus, ArgoCD, Spinnaker).
