Trainee Law Graduate – Housing Disrepair Costs

About the role

This full‑time trainee position offers a newly qualified law graduate the chance to specialise in costs law within the fast‑moving Housing Disrepair sector. Based in MRN’s new office in Prestwich, you will work alongside senior costs professionals and fee earners, gaining hands‑on experience in legal billing and party‑and‑party costs.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse case files, schedules and bills of costs to identify challengeable profit costs and disbursements.
• Assist in drafting letters of advice, points of dispute and other client communications.
• Negotiate party‑and‑party costs settlements with opposing solicitors and costs representatives.
• Conduct legal research on the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and relevant case law.
• Maintain accurate data in the firm’s Case Management System.

Required profile

• Law graduate or MCILEX‑level qualification.
• Basic understanding of the CPR and standard costs principles.
• Interest or experience in housing disrepair or personal injury protocols is advantageous.
• Proactive, highly organised and able to meet target‑driven deadlines.

• Confident verbal and written communication for negotiating settlements.
