Training & Competence Manager – Financial Planning

About the role

The Training and Competence Manager will support a fast‑growing financial planning firm, overseeing adviser development across the South West. Working remotely with regular regional travel, you will act as a trusted coach, ensuring advisers meet the firm’s competency framework and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise advisers at all experience levels, providing coaching, feedback and competency assessments.
• Guide advisers through the journey to Chartered Adviser Status (CAS) and maintain compliance with FCA regulations.
• Deliver training sessions, role‑plays, live observations and develop tailored CPD plans.
• Review performance KPIs, identify development opportunities and update training materials.
• Collaborate with compliance, senior management and other internal stakeholders to uphold high standards of competence.

Required profile

• Current experience in a Training & Competence role within financial services.
• Minimum Level 4 qualification (advanced desirable).
• Proven track record supervising advisers in pensions, investments and protection.
• Strong understanding of financial planning, client‑focused advice and FCA regulatory requirements.

Required skills

• Knowledge of FCA regulations and industry standards.
• Experience delivering coaching, mentoring and competency assessments.
• Ability to design and improve training programmes and materials.
