Urgent and Emergency Care Improvement Consultant

About the role

PA Consulting is seeking Urgent and Emergency Care Improvement Consultants to help redesign NHS urgent and emergency services. Working in a hybrid model, you will join a multidisciplinary Operations and Improvement team based in Manchester (or London) and collaborate with NHS leaders to create sustainable, data‑driven care pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Reduce avoidable emergency department attendances and redirect patients to earlier, preventative models of care.
• Deliver “Left Shift” initiatives by redesigning pathways that intervene sooner and closer to patients’ homes.
• Build integrated, data‑driven UEC models that serve patients, clinicians, and health systems.
• Support providers, ambulance services and other stakeholders to move from crisis mode to sustainable, future‑ready delivery.
• Analyse complex NHS environments, cut through noise and provide clear, actionable recommendations.

Required profile

• Willingness to challenge and disrupt the status quo in urgent and emergency care.
• Ability to work with visionary NHS leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of the pressures on emergency departments, ambulance services and primary care.
• Commitment to delivering tangible transformation rather than theoretical proposals.
