VDI Platform Engineer (VMWare)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced VDI Platform Engineer to join a medium‑sized enterprise on a hybrid basis (2‑3 days per week in London). You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of a VMware (Omnissa) Horizon environment, ensuring high availability and performance for both Windows and Linux virtual desktops.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Horizon components such as pods, pools, brokers and gateways.
• Collaborate with platform teams covering vSphere, storage and networking.
• Monitor performance, capacity and troubleshoot end‑to‑end VDI issues.
• Handle incidents, problem management and change activities.
• Manage desktop pools, images and provisioning processes.
• Support application delivery tools (e.g., App Volumes) and user profile solutions (e.g., DEM).
• Maintain underlying Windows Server services including AD, DNS and authentication.
• Contribute to patching, upgrades and continuous improvement of the platform.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with VMware Horizon (Omnissa) in enterprise settings.
• Good understanding of Horizon architecture, vSphere (vCenter, ESXi) and VDI performance troubleshooting.
• Solid Windows Server knowledge (Active Directory, GPO, DNS) and experience supporting Windows and/or Linux VDI desktops.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
