Weekend Porter – Morning & Afternoon (Part‑time)

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic Weekend Porters to join the catering team at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Cobham. The role is split into a morning and an afternoon shift and is performed on Saturdays and Sundays during term‑time. You will help keep the school’s kitchen and dining areas clean, safe and ready for students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Set up breakfast service and assist with food preparation.
• Brush and mop floors, maintain cleanliness in the pot‑wash and dish‑wash areas.
• Wash plates, pots, pans, trays and cutlery to a high standard.
• Help the chef receive deliveries and store supplies.
• Replace bin bags regularly and ensure waste is managed correctly.
• Follow health and safety procedures, including safe handling of hot equipment and chemicals.
• Carry out any additional duties required by the catering team.

Required profile

• Good understanding of basic hygiene and cleanliness standards in a kitchen or catering environment.
• Experience in a kitchen, catering, hospitality or cleaning role (paid or voluntary).
• Ability to work physically – lift, carry, bend and stand for long periods.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Positive, flexible attitude and the capacity to stay calm during busy mealtimes.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene Level 1 (or willingness to obtain).
• Manual handling awareness.
• COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) knowledge.
• Allergy awareness.
