Year 6 Teaching Assistant – Temp to Perm

About the role

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Year 6 Teaching Assistant for a primary school on the outskirts of Wigan. The position starts in September 2026 and is offered on a full‑time, temporary‑to‑permanent basis, supporting pupils through SATs preparation and the transition to secondary school.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver targeted literacy and numeracy interventions to small groups and one‑to‑one sessions.
• Assist the classroom teacher with SATs preparation, progress tracking and confidence‑building activities.
• Support classroom management to maintain a focused, positive learning environment.
• Provide additional help for pupils with SEND or emotional support needs.
• Help prepare Year 6 pupils for the move to high school.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting Key Stage 2 pupils, preferably in Year 6.
• Strong literacy and numeracy knowledge to back the Year 6 curriculum.
• Calm, encouraging demeanor with a firm‑but‑fair approach to behaviour management.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Legal right to work in the UK and professional references.
• Commitment to the full term with the intention of moving to a permanent contract.
