Aerothermal Engineer

About the role

Rolls‑Royce is seeking an Aerothermal Engineer to develop and deliver aerothermal capability for its gas‑path engines. The role covers the full product lifecycle from concept through production and fleet support, working closely with airframers and strategic partners.

Key responsibilities

• Define and capture aerothermal requirements, ensuring accurate flow‑down to system, sub‑system and component levels.
• Develop concepts for gas‑path aerothermal systems, evaluate trade‑offs and optimise designs against platform and power‑plant targets.
• Integrate aerothermal systems with adjacent engineering domains to achieve overall system optimisation.
• Perform technical analysis of sub‑system and component aerothermal performance using appropriate analytical tools and fidelity levels.
• Plan and execute verification and validation activities, specify test and measurement programmes, calibrate models against data and quantify uncertainties.
• Manage knowledge, information and data for aerothermal systems, including technical reporting, documentation filing and data retention.

Required profile

• Proven experience in aerothermal engineering, gas‑path aerodynamics, thermodynamics and combustion modelling.
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical findings effectively.

• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) at multiple fidelity levels.
• Thermodynamics and combustion modelling.

• Numerical modelling and model calibration.
• Test rig operation and data acquisition for TRL‑based validation.
• Uncertainty quantification and validation methodology.
