Assistant Chief Engineer – Propulsion & Platform Systems

About the role

Join Babcock at HMNB Clyde Faslane as a System Technical Authority for Propulsion and Platform Systems. You will protect the operational capability of the Royal Navy’s most advanced submarines, working across deep maintenance periods to ensure safety, performance and availability standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight and guidance on platform systems on behalf of the Chief Engineer.
• Hold full technical delegations and act as the primary interface with Design and Technical Authorities.
• Maintain design intent from work‑package creation through execution, testing and acceptance.
• Collaborate with internal project teams and MOD stakeholders to develop long‑term engineering solutions.
• Participate in working groups to assess engineering changes, resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a System Technical Authority for propulsion and platform systems in submarine engineering.
• Engineering degree (mechanical, electrical or related) with Chartered Engineer status or close to achieving it.
• Strong background in system engineering within mechanical or electrical disciplines.
• Experience conducting technical audits and managing associated processes.
• Ability to obtain and maintain UK Security Check (SC) clearance; must be a sole UK national.

• Competitive salary up to £70,000 per year, dependent on experience.
