Assistant Professor (Education) – School of Biosciences

About the role
The School of Biosciences at the University of Birmingham seeks an education‑focused Assistant Professor to develop and deliver high‑quality teaching in biological sciences. The role combines teaching, curriculum design and academic leadership within a research‑informed, challenge‑led environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design, delivery and assessment of undergraduate modules across Biological Sciences and Human Sciences programmes.
- Contribute to module and programme development, ensuring inclusive, research‑informed teaching practices.
- Participate in school‑level committees, working groups and leadership activities that enhance student experience and employability.
- Provide expert advice and mentorship to staff and students on learning and teaching methods.
- Support the School’s strategic goals on global challenges such as conservation, evolution and bioinformatics.
Required profile
- PhD or equivalent in a biological science discipline with expertise in animal behaviour, evolution, conservation or related fields.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in higher education.
- Experience of curriculum development and module leadership at undergraduate level.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, inclusive academic community.
- Willingness to engage in the 5‑year Academic Development Programme and pursue HEA Fellowship if not already held.

- Fixed‑term contract (up to 12 months) with a salary range £47,389‑£56,535 per annum.
