Audit Manager – Lead Audit Team in Chelmsford

About the role

Rutherford Briant, a well‑established accountancy practice in Chelmsford, is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to lead a talented audit team. You will own a diverse client portfolio, guide engagements from planning through to completion, and work closely with partners to drive the firm’s growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of audit clients across multiple industries, ensuring high‑quality service.
• Lead audit assignments from planning to completion, reviewing work and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor throughout the audit process.
• Coach, mentor and develop junior team members, supporting their technical and professional growth.
• Collaborate with partners to manage workflow, identify advisory opportunities, and contribute to firm expansion.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified.
• Strong external audit experience gained within an accountancy practice.
• Proven experience managing audit engagements and reviewing the work of others.
