Band 4 Cancer Support Worker – Metastatic Breast Team

About the role

This full‑time, fixed‑term position is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. You will join the Specialist Breast Care Nursing Service, working closely with the newly appointed Metastatic Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide compassionate support for patients living with metastatic breast cancer.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Metastatic Breast CNS in delivering holistic, patient‑centred care.
• Complete Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs) for patients on the metastatic pathway.
• Communicate effectively with patients face‑to‑face and via telephone, offering guidance and reassurance.
• Maintain accurate patient tracking using databases to coordinate care pathways.
• Monitor and relay test results (blood, imaging) to patients in a timely and sensitive manner.
• Liaise with the wider oncology team to ensure continuity of care across treatment transitions.

Required profile

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and able to work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Good IT proficiency for database and patient‑management tasks.
• Previous experience with cancer patients is desirable but not essential.

• Basic data entry and IT skills to support accurate record‑keeping.
