Caretaker – High‑Rise Housing Services

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated caretaker to maintain high‑rise residential blocks for Manchester City Council. The role ensures communal areas are clean, safe and welcoming while acting as a primary point of contact for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain communal areas, buildings and grounds to high standards through cleaning and janitorial work.
• Carry out health, safety and security duties, including risk assessments, fire safety checks and key‑holder responsibilities.
• Report and monitor repair requests, liaise with contractors and ensure timely completion of maintenance work.
• Provide responsive customer service to residents, handling enquiries and supporting community initiatives.
• Manage waste disposal areas and assist with the upkeep of gardens and green spaces.
• Keep accurate records of inspections, repairs and compliance activities using the relevant IT systems.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cleaning, caretaking, facilities or estate services.
• Strong understanding of health and safety responsibilities in a residential environment.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Required skills

• Basic IT systems for record‑keeping and reporting.
