Compliance Manager – Financial Crimes (EMEA)

About the role

The Global Risk & Compliance (GRC) organisation at American Express is looking for a Manager‑Compliance to lead the governance of the EMEA Financial Crimes Compliance programme. Reporting to the Senior Manager for Program Governance, you will embed AML, sanctions and anti‑corruption controls across the region, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Drive and continuously improve the audit management framework, overseeing internal and external audit lifecycles.
• Coordinate regulatory interactions, preparing responses to exams, audits and inquiries.
• Own the delivery of MLRO‑related regulatory reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Manage issue and event tracking, reporting, remediation and escalation of risks.
• Lead money‑laundering, sanctions and terrorist‑financing risk assessments in partnership with the Risk Management Office.
• Produce consistent, high‑quality financial‑crimes reporting for senior stakeholders and governance forums.
• Govern the analysis and validation of complex data sets to support regulatory and internal reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial‑crimes compliance, AML, sanctions or anti‑corruption within a large, regulated organisation.
• Strong understanding of audit processes, regulatory reporting requirements and issue‑management frameworks.
• Ability to work collaboratively with market compliance officers, legal entity compliance officers and first‑line teams.
• Excellent analytical skills and experience delivering risk assessments and data‑driven insights.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
