Consultant Psychologist – Head of Psychological Specialty (Adult Mental Health)

About the role

This interim position offers senior leadership of Adult Mental Health Psychology across three Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) within the Psychology Department at Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine. The role is initially for three months, working 21.6 hours per week on a fixed‑term basis.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional, operational and strategic leadership to the three Adult Mental Health Psychology teams (North, East and South HSCP).
• Oversee and support three Consultant Clinical Psychologists, ensuring high‑quality service delivery.
• Drive collaborative working across the department, promoting a caring, safe and respectful culture.
• Manage day‑to‑day operational matters, including staffing, service planning and performance monitoring.
• Contribute to strategic development of adult mental health services within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Required profile

• Current internal staff of NHS Ayrshire & Arran or NHS Scotland.
• Qualified Consultant Psychologist with extensive experience in adult mental health.
• Demonstrated senior leadership and management capability.
• UK driving licence (essential for the role).
