Electronic Engineer – Hardware & Firmware Development

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Electronic Engineer to join our R&D team in Birmingham. The role involves designing innovative electronic products, covering hardware, embedded firmware and product validation in a collaborative environment. You will work on a hybrid schedule with one day on‑site each fortnight.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise electrical circuits and PCB layouts for manufacturability.
• Develop, debug and test embedded firmware for digital products.
• Investigate, resolve and document hardware and firmware issues.
• Support electrical testing, validation and performance improvements.
• Deliver small hardware or firmware features independently within larger projects.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation while working in an Agile/Scrum framework.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing PCBs for industrial electronic products.
• Strong background in electronic circuit design and knowledge of PCB design for manufacture.
• Understanding of DSP, EMC best practices, RoHS and WEEE compliance.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.

Required skills

• PCB design using Altium or KiCad.
• Embedded programming in C and hardware description in Verilog.
• Digital Signal Processing (DSP) concepts.
• EMC, RoHS and WEEE compliance knowledge.
• ATEX (IEC 60079‑11) design experience (desirable).
• IEC 60068‑2 environmental testing standards (desirable).
• PLC programming, particularly Siemens S7 (desirable).
• Familiarity with STM32 microcontrollers and Xilinx Zynq SoCs.
