EMEA Tax Controversy Lead

About the role
The EMEA Tax Controversy Lead will own the management of tax audits, inquiries and disputes across the EMEA region. Reporting to the EMEA Director of Tax & Treasury, you will work closely with finance, legal, external advisors and business teams to protect the company’s financial and reputational position.
Key responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end tax audits, inquiries and dispute resolution covering corporate tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing and digital services tax.
- Develop and execute strategies for complex tax disputes, including APA negotiations, MAP procedures and tax litigation.
- Act as the primary liaison with EMEA tax authorities, maintaining professional and transparent relationships.
- Draft and submit technical responses, position papers, appeals and settlement proposals.
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Business and Product teams to gather facts and build robust defence cases.
- Manage external tax and legal advisers, ensuring high‑quality defence strategies and efficient resource use.
- Identify, assess and mitigate tax risks, translating audit findings into actionable improvements.
- Maintain internal controls and governance aligned with EMEA Tax Framework and Global Tax policy.
- Drive process improvements for tracking, managing and reporting the audit portfolio.
- Monitor changes in tax controversy trends and authority focus areas.
Required profile
- Significant experience in tax controversy, tax litigation or complex tax advisory, preferably across public accounting, top‑tier law firms and in‑house roles.
- Professional tax qualification (e.g., ACA, ATT, CTA) or qualified legal/tax attorney.
- Strong knowledge of EMEA tax principles, including corporate income tax, VAT, transfer pricing and digital services tax.
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage external advisors.
