About the role
This short‑term work experience gives 16‑18 year‑olds a hands‑on glimpse of engineering careers within BAE Systems Submarines. Participants will spend a week at the Submarines Academy in Barrow‑in‑Furness, exploring a range of engineering disciplines and learning about degree apprenticeship pathways.
Key responsibilities
- Attend an introduction to BAE Systems Submarines and its business operations.
- Explore the Engineering function through presentations on Digital Business Analyst, Cyber Security, Software, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, Naval Architecture, and more.
- Engage in career‑path discussions with current staff and apprentices.
- Take part in employability workshops, practical engineering activities, university talks and a mock interview.
Required profile
- 5 GCSEs A*-C (or 9‑4) including Maths, English and Science or a technical subject.
- Minimum 96 UCAS Tariff points (e.g., 3 A‑levels C or above, with Maths and an engineering/science/technical subject, or a STEM L3 BTEC/T‑Level).
- Aged 16‑18, currently in Year 12 and progressing to Year 13 by September 2026.
Required skills
- No specific technical skills are required; the programme is designed for students to discover engineering interests.
