Family Practitioner – Early Years

About the role
The Family Practitioner – Early Years will work within Birmingham Family Hubs to support children aged 0‑5 and, where needed, those up to 19 years. You will deliver a whole‑family approach, providing play‑based activities, guidance and workshops that promote healthy development and early literacy.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and promote positive play sessions for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage, both in family homes and crèche settings.
- Support parents and carers with activities that enhance child development, safety, healthy lifestyle choices and early education.
- Provide guidance on childcare options and promote early literacy initiatives such as Book Start, Look, Say, Sing, Play, Tiny Happy People and First Words Together.
- Design and run group intervention programmes and evidence‑based workshops covering positive parenting, home safety, healthy living and early language development.
- Conduct two‑year development reviews using the ASQ assessment to evaluate health, social, emotional and language progress.
- Work flexibly across the service area, delivering services as directed and adapting to family needs.
Required profile
- Level 3 Early Years Practitioner qualification.
- Demonstrated experience working with young children and families in community settings.
- Ability to plan and deliver sessions both individually in homes and in group settings.
- Strong communication skills to engage parents, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
Required skills
- Proficiency with the ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire) assessment tool.
- Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and early literacy programmes.
