Finance & Payroll Assistant – Central London School

About the role

This permanent, full‑time position supports the Head of Finance in a busy secondary school located in Westminster, Central London. You will ensure accurate processing of financial transactions, assist with payroll administration and maintain compliance with statutory procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Process purchase orders, invoices, receipts and payments accurately.
• Prepare and verify BACS payment runs for authorisation.
• Reconcile credit‑card statements and supplier accounts.
• Support cash handling, banking and petty‑cash processes.
• Assist with payroll processing and review draft payroll reports.
• Support pension‑scheme submissions and year‑end audit preparation.
• Help with debt collection such as dinner‑money repayments.
• Maintain financial records using Access databases and manage document storage via DocuWare.
• Scan, index and archive financial documentation, and produce reports or data extracts.
• Provide administrative support to the Head of Finance and the wider finance team.

• Ability to manage multiple financial and administrative tasks in a busy environment.
• Excellent organisational skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
