Financial Controller

About the role

Elevate Search Ltd is partnering with a successful, growing business in Hertford to hire an experienced Financial Controller. This is a genuinely hands‑on position where you will lead the finance team while staying close to the numbers, focusing on day‑to‑day financial operations rather than strategic commercial duties.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver monthly management reporting.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Produce and review management accounts.
• Prepare and review journals, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Maintain balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and review VAT returns ensuring compliance.
• Take ownership of statutory accounts and lead the annual external audit.
• Maintain robust financial controls across the business.
• Manage, mentor and develop the finance team.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.

Required profile

• Established experience operating at Financial Controller level.
• Strong management reporting and month‑end experience.
• Excellent financial control and balance‑sheet knowledge.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts and leading external audits.
• Strong VAT experience.
• Proven experience managing and developing a finance team.
• Hands‑on approach to accounting, willing to post journals and perform reconciliations.
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or significant relevant experience.
