Financial Controller – Scaling Technology SME

About the role

This is a hands‑on Financial Controller position within a fast‑growing research and data technology SME (≈£10m turnover). You will own the finance function day‑to‑day, working closely with operations, commercial teams and senior leadership to drive financial performance and strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial results.
• Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll processes.
• Oversee external accountants and tax advisors for VAT, statutory accounts and filings.
• Produce monthly management reports with variance analysis and narrative insights.
• Support board reporting, fundraising and corporate finance activities.
• Own the annual budgeting process, rolling forecasts and scenario modelling (hiring, pricing, capacity).
• Provide commercial finance support – pricing, margin analysis, deal structuring.
• Partner with Operations to enhance the finance stack (QuickBooks, Datarails) and drive automation and AI‑enabled reporting.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA or CIMA) with at least 4 years of commercial finance or finance business‑partnering experience, preferably in a high‑growth or scale‑up environment.
• Proven ability to run a reliable month‑end close and manage external accounting partners.
• Track record of building forecasting and reporting cadences trusted by leadership.
• Strong financial modelling skills, including three‑statement models, scenario planning and sensitivity analysis.
• Excellent stakeholder management across commercial, delivery, operations and senior leadership.
• Comfort working with imperfect data and a drive to improve data quality through better processes and systems.
