Financial Journalist – The Banker (10‑month contract)

About the role

The Banker, the Financial Times' premier financial intelligence magazine, is seeking an experienced financial journalist to cover the UK banking sector, capital markets and investment‑banking stories on a 10‑month fixed‑term basis.

Key responsibilities

• Report on the UK banking industry and broader capital‑markets and investment‑banking stories.
• Pitch and deliver 3–4 original pieces per week, including exclusives, interviews and analysis.
• Turn complex financial topics into clear, engaging copy for both specialist and general audiences.
• Interview senior executives and ask well‑informed, comprehensive questions.
• Contribute to multimedia output such as podcasts and video, and represent The Banker at industry events.

Required profile

• Proven track record in financial journalism with a solid understanding of banking and financial markets.
• Demonstrated ability to break exclusive stories and produce agenda‑setting journalism.
• Established network of high‑level sources within regulatory bodies and financial institutions.
• Strong writing and editing skills with an authoritative voice.
• Experience working collaboratively in a fast‑paced newsroom and handling multiple priorities.

• Ability to explain sophisticated financial subjects clearly.
