Head of Commercial Opportunities

About the role

The Commercial Opportunities Manager will lead the identification, development and delivery of commercial initiatives across Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust and Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust. Working at senior level, the role aims to maximise income, improve financial sustainability and align commercial activity with NHS policy and patient care priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a group‑wide commercial opportunities strategy aligned to organisational and system priorities.
• Identify, evaluate and prioritise new service lines, private‑patient activity, research income and external funding streams.
• Maintain existing industry and academic partnerships and establish new collaborations.
• Produce robust business cases with financial modelling, risk assessment and ROI analysis.
• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of commercial projects from concept through implementation and evaluation.
• Achieve agreed income‑generation and cost‑improvement targets.
• Build effective relationships with clinical leaders, service managers and corporate teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior commercial or financial roles within healthcare or a related sector.
• Strong strategic thinking, autonomy and influence across organisational boundaries.
• Demonstrated ability to develop business cases and manage complex projects.
• Excellent stakeholder management and partnership development skills.
