Head of Deals/Transaction Tax

About the role
The Head of Deals Tax will establish and lead a new national Deals Tax practice within a fast‑growing corporate finance firm. Reporting to senior leadership, you will work closely with Transaction Services, M&A Advisory and Debt Advisory teams to deliver tax advice on buy‑side and sell‑side transactions for private‑equity investors, portfolio companies and mid‑market corporates. This entrepreneurial role offers full autonomy to shape strategy, build a team and become the go‑to tax advisor on corporate transactions.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and lead the firm's Deals Tax practice from inception.
- Deliver buy‑side and sell‑side tax due diligence across UK and international transactions.
- Advise private equity funds, portfolio companies and mid‑market corporates on acquisitions, disposals and investments.
- Identify key tax risks, opportunities and structuring considerations throughout transactions.
- Work closely with Transaction Services, M&A and Debt Advisory teams to provide an integrated deal offering.
- Support clients through competitive auction processes and bilateral transactions.
- Develop relationships with private equity houses, corporate clients, lawyers and other professional advisers.
- Recruit, mentor and develop a high‑performing Deals Tax team.
- Drive business development activities and help win new mandates.
- Influence the strategic growth of the wider Corporate Finance business.
- Establish processes, methodologies and best practice across the new service line.
Required profile
- Proven experience as a Deals/Transaction Tax Senior Manager, preferably at a Big 4 firm.
- Strong background in tax due diligence for buy‑side and sell‑side transactions.
- Experience working with private‑equity investors, portfolio companies and mid‑market corporates.
- Ability to identify tax risks and structuring opportunities.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and desire to build and lead a new practice.
- Excellent client relationship and business development skills.
