Head of Legislative Policy

About the role

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is seeking a senior leader to head its Legislative Policy function. You will steer evidence‑based policy positions, advise government, and protect the ICO’s regulatory remit amid major reforms.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary team in partnership with the Director.
• Provide expert insight on the ICO’s legislative framework and develop strategic policy positions.
• Analyse and advise on the impact of proposed legislative changes on individuals, businesses, and the regulator.
• Engage with senior decision‑makers, influencers and stakeholders in the UK and internationally.
• Identify emerging policy issues and deliver impactful policy products and responses.
• Represent the ICO in external forums and contribute to public consultations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in legislative or regulatory policy, preferably within the public sector.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape strategic direction.
• Strong analytical, communication and leadership skills.
• Track record of delivering high‑quality policy outputs and managing diverse teams.
